Front oil seal
Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
On 1.8L and 2.0L engines, remove the rear timing belt cover. On engines with two camshafts, remove the spacer from the end of the crankshaft.
Punch a small hole in the seal. Screw in the self-tapping screw and carefully pull out the screw together with the gland with pliers (may take several tries). Use a wooden or plastic scraper to remove dirt from the gland seat.
Wrap a thin strip of tape around the end of the crankshaft, apply a coat of grease to the lip of the new oil seal, and position it so it is flush with the surface of the pump housing using a bushing or tube. Remove the tape from the shaft.
On engines with two camshafts, apply a coat of sealant to the surface of the oil pump spacer (Vauxhall/Opel N 15 04 200 or equivalent), then slide the washer on the shaft until it stops.
On 1.8 and 2.0L engines, install the rear belt cover. Where required, install the keyway and install the crankshaft sprocket.
Rear oil seal
Remove flywheel/drive plate. Having screwed in the screw, remove the stuffing box and clean its seat.
Lubricate the lip of the new oil seal with grease, then install it so that it is flush with the end surface of the cylinder block and the rear main bearing cover. Install flywheel/drive plate.
