Front oil seal (next to the timing belt)
1. Remove the crankshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 8.
2. Carefully punch or drill two small holes in the gland. Screw the self-tapping screws into the holes and, pulling them with pliers, remove the oil seal. Alternatively, gently pry out the oil seal.
Attention! Be especially careful not to damage the oil pump.
3. Clean the packing case and sand off any nicks or burrs that might damage the new packing during installation.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and apply it to the end of the shaft. Push the stuffing box into position until it is flush with the casing. If necessary, use a suitable tubular drift (it should rest only on the hard outer edge of the gland). Be very careful not to damage the lip of the seal and make sure the lip is facing inward.
5. Wash off all traces of oil, then install the crankshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 8.
Rear oil seal
6. Remove flywheel/drive plate (see chapter 15).
7. Replace the oil seal as described in steps 2-4.
8. Install flywheel/drive plate (see chapter 15).
