Inspection
1. To improve access, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the lower shield from under the engine.
2. Check the rubber pad for cracks, hardened areas, and detachment from the metal base. Replace gimbal if damage is found.
3. Make sure all hanger fasteners are secure; use a torque wrench for this.
4. Using a large screwdriver, check the gimbal for play (he talks about wear and tear); where this is not possible, have a second person move the engine/transmission unit back and forth or side to side and observe the suspension. There is some play even with new components, but excessive wear will be evident. If there is significant play, first make sure the fasteners are tight. Replace all worn components as described below.
Replacement
Left and right engine mounts
Attention! It is recommended to change suspensions at the same time as a matched pair.
5. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Unscrew the mounting screws and remove the lower shield from under the engine.
6. Support the power unit with a jack, laying a piece of board between them. Alternatively, hook up a winch to the mounting lugs on the cylinder head.
7. Remove the top and bottom nuts securing the engine mount to the bracket on the cylinder block and to the subframe, then slightly raise the engine and move the mount out of position. If necessary, unfasten and remove the suspension bracket from the cylinder block.
Attention! Be very careful not to stress the wiring/hoses when lifting the engine and damage the exhaust system.
8. Check all components for damage and signs of wear and replace as needed.
9. When installing, place the hanger on the subframe, aligning the mounting lug with the groove in the frame, then install the lower nut and tighten it with the tightening torque specified specifications.
10. Install the suspension bracket (where filmed) on the cylinder block and tighten the fastening bolts with a tightening force regulated specifications.
11. Lower the engine onto the hanger, then remove the jack/winch. Install the upper mounting nut of the suspension and tighten it with a tightening torque regulated specifications.
12. Install the bottom guard, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
Rear suspension of the transmission unit
13. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
14. Support the transmission with a jack, laying a piece of board between them. Raise the jack to transfer the weight of the transmission onto it.
15. Loosen and remove the bolts securing the transaxle rear suspension cross member to the body. Loosen the nuts securing the cross member to the hanger and remove it from the vehicle.
16. Turn off bolts and remove a suspension bracket from the basis of transmission.
17. Check all components for damage and signs of wear and replace as needed. Remove all traces of blocking compound from the threads of the crossmember-to-body bolts.
18. Install the suspension on the transmission unit and tighten the fastening bolts with a tightening torque regulated specifications.
19. Install the cross member on the suspension and fit the fixing nuts.
20. Apply a few drops of blocking compound (Opel recommends compound 15 10 181) on the thread of the bolts securing the cross member to the body, then install both bolts and tighten them with a tightening torque regulated specifications.
21. Remove the jack from under the transmission, then tighten the nuts securing the cross member to the suspension with a tightening torque regulated specifications. Lower the car onto its wheels.
