The particulate filter is designed to clean the exhaust gases from soot. Soot particles accumulate in the filter over time during vehicle operation. With the help of a differential control sensor, the pressure of the exhaust gases is measured before and after the filter. At a certain pressure difference, the engine management system automatically regenerates (cleaning) filter - while the car is moving, by changing the amount of injected fuel, the temperature of the exhaust gases passing through the particulate filter rises to 600°C, which leads to the combustion of soot particles. The regeneration process can take up to 15 minutes and is usually not felt by the driver.
