Maintenance work
The steering gear, the gear rack of which is protected by two rubber cuffs, is located at the rear in the engine compartment. They need to be checked regularly. A cracked bellow allows dirt and dampness to enter the steering gear, and this mixture, combined with lubricant, creates a kind of grinding paste that causes great damage to the rack guide and steering gear. Timely control saves money.
Take a flashlight to help you and lean into the engine compartment on the right.
Stretch the bellows to look for cracks in the rubber rolls.
Are the clips firmly seated on each cuff?
Replace the defective cuff immediately.
