Tie Rod Head Replacement
To do this, you need a tie rod puller or a small tong puller, because. the tie rod head cannot simply be removed from the corresponding opposite part - i.e. steering arm or middle tie rod - after the nut is unscrewed; it is inserted with a so-called contact cone. The conical shapes of the tie rod head and the pitman arm are lapped together and cannot be separated without an aid.
Next, for each tie rod joint, you need a new self-locking nut. With a puller (which is written off after the first use), work on the example of an external tie rod is carried out as follows:
Remove the wheel.
Unscrew the self-locking nut on the tie rod head.
Squeeze up the head of the transverse steering rod with a puller from the steering arm on the steering knuckle.
Loosen the locknut on the tie rod head.
Mark the position of the tie rod screw connection on the adjusting bolt so that the distance between the wheels is close to the original after assembly.
Unscrew the tie rod head and screw in a new one to the marking. On the right tie rod head is the letter «R», on the left - the letter «L».
Press the ball pin of the tie rod head into the steering arm.
Tighten the new self-locking nut to 60 Nm.
Tighten the locknut to 85 Nm.
If a new tie rod has been installed or the setting of the old one has been changed, readjust the toe-in (In workshop).
Replacing the tie rod assembly
When replacing the tie rod assembly, the steering gear must be removed. This is where amateur art ends. Dismantling the steering gear is a job for the workshop.
