Checking the straight-line position of the mechanical steering (Opel Kadett E)

To set the steering mechanism in a position corresponding to straight-line movement, you should obtain dimension "A" = 325 mm (see picture) between the pin on the steering rod mounting spacer and the left support of the steering gear housing, when looking in the direction of vehicle travel.



In this position, the steering wheel spokes should be symmetrically directed downwards. The tightening bolt of the steering shaft connecting flange should be at the top in a horizontal position. If the flange is in a different position, the position of the drive pinion should be changed.

If the steering wheel is not in the correct position, it should be removed from the shaft and installed in the correct position.
