Mechanical steering specifications (Opel Kadett E)

Opel brand steering with a rack and pinion steering mechanism. The steering drive consists of two steering rods connected by ball joints to the steering knuckles. The steering column is injury-proof. The steering shaft is made of one piece, except for cars with a height-adjustable steering column, on which it consists of two parts connected by a cardan joint.

Some cars are equipped with a steering shock absorber. The gap between the stop and the rack is adjusted with a bolt and lock nut.

On vehicles with the "20XE" engine, the lateral rigidity of the steering mechanism has been increased, which has improved the precision of the steering control.
Steering gear ratio:

• cars with engine "16S" and automatic transmission: 24.5:1;
• other car models: 22:1.

On vehicles with a 24.5:1 steering ratio, the rack has 32 teeth and is marked with one groove; on vehicles with a 22:1 steering ratio, the rack has 28 teeth and does not have a marking groove.
