System Check — General Description (Opel Vectra A)

1. Apart from checking the main electrical circuits, you cannot check any other components of the fuel system yourself.

2. If damage has occurred, first check all electrical wiring. Check that the air cleaner element is not clogged, the spark plugs should be in good condition with the gaps correctly adjusted. Also check that the engine breather hoses are not blocked or damaged and that the throttle cable is adjusted correctly. If the engine runs very rough, check the compression (Section 2), and remember that one of the hydraulic tappets may be faulty, creating incorrect valve clearance.

3. If the problem is suspected to be due to a clogged injector, try cleaning it.

4. If damage remains, check ignition system components (as far as possible).

5. If the damage still persists, check all fuses, connectors and wiring for loose connections, moisture, corrosion, dirt or other damage.

6. After checking the system components, contact your Opel dealer to check the entire system using special equipment.

7. Do not attempt to "test" components, especially ECUs, with improvised means other than test equipment.
