Electronic Control Unit (ECU) — Removal and Installation (Opel Vectra A)

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the side trim panel in the driver's footwell (Section 11).

3. Release the unit from the fasteners, remove it, disconnect the electrical wiring (see illustration).



4. Please note that the unit consists of two parts: the main control unit and the Programmable Read-Only Memory (PROM). Although the units can be replaced independently, do not attempt to separate them. Damage can only be diagnosed by an experienced mechanic using special Opel equipment. If the ECU makes any noise, it may be seriously damaged due to careless contact connections between the two sub-units.

Installation

5. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Make sure the electrical wiring is connected correctly.
