Battery — Removal and Installation (Opel Ascona C)

1. The battery is located on a support plate attached to the left wing area in the engine compartment. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive one from its terminals, after you have loosened the mounting bolts and nuts.

2. Release the battery clamp plate, and then carefully remove the battery from the backing plate. Keep it upright to prevent electrolyte from spilling (see photo 4.2).



3. Installation is carried out by performing these actions in reverse order. Connect the positive battery cable first, then the negative, and lubricate the contacts with Vaseline to prevent corrosion; never use regular lubricant. Do not overtighten the contact mounting bolts or hit them. The contacts are made of lead and can be easily damaged.
