Rear Trailing Arm — Removal and Installation (Opel Omega A)

1. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and secure it to axle stands installed under the crossmember.

2. Using a socket wrench, loosen the bolts securing the drive shaft to the rear hub. Remove the lock washers.

3. Move the drive shaft away from the rear hub to one side.

4. Disconnect the hydraulic brake hose from the trailing arm suspension.

5. Remove the rear wheel, then unscrew and remove the brake caliper and tie it up.

6. Loosen the mounting screw and remove the brake disc.

7. Disconnect the return spring and disconnect the handbrake cable from the lever on the trailing arm. Disconnect the cable from the suspension.

8. Unscrew the hub bolts and remove the stop.

9. Remove the rear hub, then take out the brake shoes assembly.

10. When removing the left diagonal arm, disconnect the rubber gaskets of the rear exhaust pipe mount and lower the pipe by approximately 30 cm. Fix the pipe in this position with wire or twine.

11. Unscrew the rear stabilizer bar link from the wishbone and turn up. Remove the rubber cushion from the wishbone.

12. Use a jack to slightly raise the diagonal arm.

13. On models with rear suspension leveling, release the air pressure from the valve, then unclip the pressure line from the shock absorber piston rod.

14. Unscrew the lower shock absorber rod mounting bolt.

15. Lower the jack until the rear spring and rubber damping pad can be removed.

16. Lower the jack completely.

17. Support the transmission tip on a jack and unscrew the rear part.



18. Slightly lower the transmission tip, then unscrew and remove the pivot bolts and remove the diagonal arm from the crossmember (photo).

19. If the bushings are worn, they can be replaced. Cut the rubber of the old bushings and press out the bushings using a long bolt, nut, washers and a suitable metal pipe. Install the new bushings in the same way, but first soak them in soapy water.

20. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, but adjust the handbrake and, on models with a rear suspension leveling system, inflate the system to the specified pressure value. Tighten all nuts and bolts to the specified tightening torque Specification.
