Rear Suspension Crossmember Installations — Replacement (Opel Omega A)

1. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and secure it on axle stands installed under the rear projections of the underbody channel. Remove both rear wheels.

2. Disconnect the rubber hangers of the rear muffler mount and lower the muffler by approximately 30 cm. Fix the muffler in this position with wire or twine.

3. Disconnect the hydraulic brake system hoses from the suspension on the diagonal arms by pulling out the stops.

4. Support the final drive mechanism with a jack.

5. Remove the three hanger bolts and one center bolt from the crossmember mountings on each side and remove the hangers.

6. The mountings can now be removed from the crossmember. A special tool for this task is shown in Figure 10.11. The crossmember should be lowered slightly and the mounting tool inserted from above, then the extractor should be assembled as shown in the figure and the nut should be compressed to remove the mounting. If a regular extractor is not available, use a metal tube, a long bolt and large washers or a metal plate to remove the mounting.

7. The installation tool is shown in Figure 10.1. A similar tool can be made from a metal plate and a long bolt.
