- Standard set of locksmith tools;
- Torque wrench with 1/2-inch drive;
- Tool for putting on piston rings;
- Tool for crimping piston rings;
- Short lengths of fuel hose for fitting rod bearing caps onto studs;
- Measuring set Plastigage;
- A set of blade type probes;
- File with a small tooth;
- Fresh motor oil;
- Assembly motor or molybdenum-containing lubricant;
- gasket sealant;
- Sealant for fixing threaded connections.
At this stage, all components to be installed must be absolutely clean and dry. For convenience, lay out the parts on a clean surface in the order of installation.
To save time and minimize problems, assemble the engine in the following order:
Gasoline engines
- Piston rings;
- crankshaft and main bearings;
- Connecting rod and piston assemblies;
- Oil pump with oil pickup tube (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Balance Assembly/Main Bearing Bridge (depending on the configuration, if provided);
- Oil pan (including oil baffle plate if provided) (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Flywheel/Drive Disc (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Cylinder head with camshaft (And) and valve drive components (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Timing mechanism housing and cover (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Water pump (see chapter Engine cooling, interior heating and air conditioning systems);
- Rear Timing Cover (see parts Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Timing Drive Components (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Front Timing Covers (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle or In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures);
- Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold (see chapter Power supply systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases);
- Mounted units;
- Engine guard (with appropriate equipment).
Diesel engines
- Piston rings;
- crankshaft and main bearings;
- Connecting rod and piston assemblies;
- Mounted units;
- Oil pump with oil pickup tube (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Oil pan (including oil baffle plate if provided) (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Flywheel/Drive Disc (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Cylinder head with camshaft (And) and valve drive components (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Water pump (see chapter Engine cooling, interior heating and air conditioning systems);
- Timing Drive Components (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Timing mechanism housing and cover (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Timing drive components with rear cover (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Front Timing Covers (see part Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle);
- Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold (see chapter Power supply systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases).
