Removing
1. Remove the front subframe (see Removal and installation of the front subframe).
2. Place a suitable drain container under the steering pump assembly.
3. Disconnect the high-pressure pipes from the pump assembly, - use a spanner wrench with a split head to loosen the nuts of the union connections. If necessary, cut off the return tube clamp and replace it with a threaded clamp during assembly.
4. Disconnect the electrical wiring connector, disconnect the ground bus, - try to remember the route of laying the harness.
The wiring harness is permanently integrated into the pump.
5. Loosen the fixing nuts and remove the pump assembly with the support bracket, wiring harness and hydraulic fluid reservoir from the subframe / steering gear housing, - pay attention to the type of reservoir to be installed - round (TRW) or angular (Delphi/Saginaw). Please also note that on models up to 2000 issue. a two-pin connector is installed, and after 2000 issue. - three-pin. If necessary, the appropriate adapter can always be purchased from Opel's original auto parts store.
6. Give fixing nuts and remove the pump and directing plugs from an arm. Check the condition of the bushings, replace the defective components.
Installation
1. Place the pump with bushings on the support bracket and tighten the fixing nuts.
2. Install the pump assembly with the bracket on the subframe / steering gear and tighten the nuts of its fastening with the required force.
3. Restore the original wiring connection, - follow the correct laying of the harness.
4. After replacing the o-rings of the union connectors, connect the hydraulic pipes to the pump. Check the tightness of the union nuts, if necessary, replace the return hose clamp.
5. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap and remove the strainer. Rinse the screen and put the filter back, then top up the tank with the required amount of fresh liquid of the required grade (see chapter Current service).
Hydraulic fluid drained from the system must not be reused!
6. Reinstall the front subframe (see Removal and installation of the front subframe).
7. Bleed the hydraulic system (see Removal of air from the hydraulic path of the power steering).
