Removal

1. Remove the front subframe (see Removal and installation the front subframe).

2. Place a suitable drain pan under the steering pump assembly.

3. Disconnect the high-pressure pipes from the pump assembly - use a socket wrench to loosen the union nuts. If necessary, cut off the return pipe fastening band clamp and replace it with a threaded one during assembly.

4. Disconnect the electrical wiring connector, disconnect the ground bus - try to remember the route of the harness.

The wiring harness is permanently mounted into the pump.

5. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the pump assembly with the support bracket, wiring harness and hydraulic fluid reservoir from the subframe/steering gear housing - pay attention to the type of reservoir being installed - round (TRW) or angular (Delphi/Saginaw). Please also note that on models produced before 2000. a two-pin contact connector is installed, and after 2000. - three-pin. If necessary, the corresponding adapter can always be purchased at the Opel branded auto parts store.

5. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the pump assembly with the support bracket, wiring harness…

6. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the pump and guide bushings from the bracket. Check the condition of the bushings, replace any defective components.

Installation

1. Install the pump with bushings on the support bracket and tighten the mounting nuts.

2. Install the pump assembly with bracket on the subframe/steering gear and tighten its mounting nuts to the required torque.

3. Restore the original wiring connection - ensure that the harness is routed correctly.

4. After replacing the sealing rings of the nipple connectors, connect the hydraulic tubes to the pump. Make sure that the nipple nuts are tightened securely; if necessary, replace the return hose clamp.

5. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap and take out the mesh filter. Wash the mesh and install the filter back, then add the required amount of fresh fluid of the required grade to the reservoir (see Chapter Routine maintenance).

Hydraulic fluid drained from the system cannot be reused!
