1 - Coupling bolt
Removing
1. Bring the front wheels of the car into a straight line. Remove the ignition key and lock the steering wheel.
2. Remove the lower instrument panel trim sections and driver's footwell air supply hose.
3. Mark the position of the upper and lower intermediate shaft fasteners relative to the steering column and steering input shaft (see illustration Intermediate shaft articulation with steering input shaft).
4. Squeeze the telescopic intermediate shaft and remove it from the splines of the steering gear and column. Remove the intermediate shaft from the vehicle.
Examination
1. Check the shaft for signs of mechanical damage to the articulations. In case of detection of defects, the shaft must be replaced as an assembly.
Installation
1. Make sure the steering wheel and front wheels of the vehicle are in a straight line. Check up reliability of blocking of a steering column.
2. Place the intermediate shaft on the splines of the input shaft of the steering mechanism, - make sure that the marks are correctly aligned (if the shaft is incorrectly installed, it will not be possible to insert the bolt). Lightly lubricate the threaded part of the bolt with an anaerobic fixative sealant, thread the bolt into the clamp and tighten to the required torque.
3. Insert the top end of the shaft into the splines of the column (again follow the correct alignment of the alignment marks applied during the dismantling of the components). Insert clamp bolt and tighten securely.
4. Install the air supply hose to the driver's footwell and the lower sections of the instrument panel trim.
