Removal and installation the steering rod (Opel Astra G)

            0

Contents: Removal ⬇ Installation ⬇

Removal

1. Remove the steering tip (see Removal and installation tie rod ends), - to remove the right rod you will need to remove both steering tips and both boots.

2. If necessary, remove the mudguard and wheel arch protective panel.

3. Loosen the mounting clamps and remove the tie rod boot (see paragraph 1).

4. By turning the steering wheel all the way to the appropriate direction, release the traction completely from the steering mechanism, - mark the outer surface of the traction attachment and the rail to mark the tightening angle of the connection (see below Installation, p.1).

5. Holding the rack from turning by the flats with an open-end wrench, unscrew the housing of the internal connection of the rod with the rack - use a large adjustable wrench or "Swedish" wrenches.

Installation

1. Clean the threaded parts of the components and lubricate them with an anaerobic locking sealant. Screw the inner joint of the tie rod onto the rack and tighten to the required force - the design makes it difficult to use a torque wrench, so use the pre-applied marks.

2. Install the dust boots by pulling the inner end onto the rack housing, and fix the outer (narrow) end in the rod groove. Replace the mounting clamps if necessary.

3. If equipped, install the mudguard and wheel arch protective panel.

4. Install the tie rod ends (see Removal and installation tie rod ends).

5. At the earliest opportunity, take the car to a specialized auto service workshop to check and adjust the front wheel alignment.
