The car models covered in this manual are equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation. To avoid damage to the SRS system, make sure that the steering shaft does not turn after removing the steering wheel. Block the column with the ignition key with the front wheels straight ahead.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and wait at least 1 minute for the SRS battery pack capacitor to fully discharge.
2. Bring the front wheels into a straight line and lock the steering column by removing the key from the ignition.
3. Remove the horn activation button/airbag module (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment). Move the airbag module to a safe place and place it with the cover up.
4. At the corresponding complete set disconnect electroconducting from switches of remote control of a radio receiver.
5. Using a TORX wrench, remove the steering wheel-to-column bolt.
1 - Mounting bolt (TORX)
2 — the Contact socket of electroconducting of remote control of a radio receiver
3 - Contact connector for the wiring of the horn button
6. Mark the position of the steering wheel (4) on the column shaft (5).
7. Grasping the wheel with your hands on both sides and swinging it from side to side, remove it from the splines of the shaft. After removing the wheel, release the wiring harness going to the contact block from its central hole and (with appropriate equipment) radio remote control buttons.
8. Try to prevent displacement of the contact block after removing the steering wheel - if necessary, fix it with adhesive tape.
Installation
1. Make sure that the arrows of the contact block are correctly aligned, - if necessary, press the holder, turn the block counterclockwise as far as it will go, then return it to the center position (follow the instructions supplied with the block).
2. Bring a steering wheel to a column and stretch a plait of electroconducting through its central opening.
3. Set the turn signal switch to the middle position (Off) and put the steering wheel on the splines of the shaft, - make sure that the marks made during the dismantling process are aligned correctly, and also that the contact block does not move.
4. Screw in and firmly tighten the mounting bolt.
5. If equipped, connect the wiring to the radio remote control buttons.
6. Connect the electrical wiring and reinstall the airbag module/klaxon button and attach the wiring. Screw in the two fixing screws and tighten them to the required torque.
7. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
