Removing
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Jack up the car and secure it on stands under the bridge.
On models with a catalytic converter, unscrew the nuts and remove the heat shield of the center section of the exhaust line.
Note the length of the exposed threads on the handbrake cable adjuster, then remove the nut to disengage the cable bracket from the handbrake lever linkage.
Disconnect the cable bracket from the link and remove the rubber seal from the bottom of the body and drive link.
Remove the central control console as directed in chapter 12.
Carefully lift the mat around the handbrake lever housing to expose the two handbrake lever mounting bolts.
Loosen the bolts and remove the handbrake lever so that the warning light switch wire can be pulled out "ON" ("included").
Disconnect a wire and take the lever of a manual brake and draft.
Repair
A worn ratchet segment can be replaced. by removing the fastening coupling from the hand brake lever using a metal bar or bolt of the required diameter.
Screw in new bushing (comes with new segment) into the lever to ensure a small gap between the segment and the lever.
Handbrake Warning Light Switch "ON" (ON) can be removed after removing the bolt.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
Install the seat as indicated in chapter 11.
Install a new self-locking nut to attach the handbrake cable bracket to the linkage and tighten the nut to the same position it was in before removal.
Before lowering the vehicle to the ground, adjust the handbrake as described in the previous section.
