The purpose of the valve is to allow air to flow in only one direction out of the booster. If the valve passes air in both directions, it must be replaced.
To test the valve, first remove the hose/valve assembly as described later in this section.
Blow out the hose from the side of the amplifier: the air must pass freely through the valve.
Now blow out the hose from the intake manifold side; air must not pass.
If the valve is defective, it must be replaced.
The plastic valve is located in the vacuum hose that runs from the intake manifold to the brake booster.
When replacing a valve, it is easier to replace the entire hose/valve assembly.
To remove the assembly, carefully disconnect the hose adapter from the vacuum booster, then unscrew the booster fitting; after disconnecting the hose fitting from the internal manifold, remove the assembly.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal, but while connecting the hose adapter to the amplifier, take care not to damage the gasket. Then start the engine and check for air leaks.
