Removing
1. Working in the engine compartment, loosen the pinch bolt securing the gear selector rod to the linkage.
2. Remove the shift lever (Chapter 5).
3. Remove the front of the central console as described in Section 11.
4. Remove the four bolts securing the shift lever cover to the floor.
5. Remove the selector shroud and stem assembly. Move the assembly to the rear of the vehicle and pass the gear selector rod through the bulkhead, having an assistant remove the clip from the end of the rod (in the engine compartment), so as not to damage the rubber cuff in the baffle.
6. If required, replace the rubber seal by pushing it out of the baffle and installing a new one in its place.
Installation
7. The selector rod bushing in the shift lever housing can be replaced by moving the selector rod away from the housing. Remove, using a screwdriver as leverage, the bushing assembly from the lever housing, then remove the bushing from its housing. Install in reverse order, lubricating the inside of the bushing with a small amount of silicone grease.
8. Installation of the stem/lever cover assembly is carried out in the reverse order, but before clamping the gear selector stem pinch bolt, adjust the selector rod as described in Chapter 2.
