Flexible coupling of the steering gear shaft — replacement (Opel Vectra A)

1. Set the front wheels in the straight ahead position.

2. While working in the engine compartment, loosen the steering gear mounting bolts.

3. Working in the driver's footwell, remove the lower trim panel.

4. Loosen and remove the two elastic coupling clamp bolts (see illustration).



5. Move the coupling upward and remove it from the steering gear shaft.

6. Before installation, make sure the steering gear and steering wheel are centered (see Chapter 31).

7. Install the coupling and insert the tie bolts, but do not tighten them at this stage.

8. Press down on the coupling and tighten the lower tie bolt.

9. Tighten the steering gear mounting bolts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.

10. Move the steering gear shaft up to the bearing stop, then tighten the upper coupling pinch bolt.

11. Install the driver's footwell lower trim panel.
