Vehicles with a 2.5L diesel engine (X25DT)
The viscous fan clutch should be replaced if there is rust on its hub. Because of it, the fan either stops or rotates with great difficulty when the engine is stopped. Also replace the coupling if it has significant axial or radial play. In addition, there should be no oil drips on the coupling hub.
Removing
1. Remove the engine compartment protection (see relevant chapter).
2. Unscrew the 32mm fan from the water pump hub with a wrench (see illustration).
Attention! The fan mounting nut has a left-hand thread, so you need to unscrew it to the right (counterclock-wise).
When unscrewing the nut, tighten the water pump drive belt, thus keeping the hub from turning. In specialized workshops, for this purpose, use the device 1 KM-821 (see illustration 7.0). Such a device can be made independently from a steel sheet. After loosening the nut, it can be unscrewed by rotating the fan impeller. Make sure that the impeller does not fall down.
3. Remove the fan by pushing it down.
Attention! Do not lay the viscous fan horizontally. They should only be placed vertically!
If necessary, separate the impeller and coupling by unscrewing the three mounting bolts.
Installation
4. Install the viscous coupling in the fan and fasten with 10 Nm bolts.
Attention! To avoid damaging the coupling threads, do not overtighten the bolts.
5. Attach the fan with the clutch installed to the water pump hub by tightening the nut to 20 Nm while holding the hub from turning.
Attention! Do not twist the nut when installing. The nut has a left-hand thread.
6. Establish protection of a motor compartment.
