- candle wrench 16 mm, for example, HAZET900AKF.
Necessary materials:
- 4 or 6 spark plugs according to specification.
1. Unscrew the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench and check the condition of the spark plugs.
2. Inspect the removed candle. If the spark plug is oily or wet, then there is a misfire or it is caused by poor condition of the piston rings (check the compression by contacting the workshop).
3. Check the spark plug insulators for traces of surface leakage currents. They are detected by thin uneven traces on the surface of the insulator. If there are such traces, check the tightness of the tip of the high voltage wire on the spark plug. Replace tip if necessary.
4. Clean the spark plugs with a brass brush or sandblaster if necessary.
5. Measure the gap 2 between the electrodes using a special probe (see illustration). The nominal value of the gap is 0.9-1.1 mm.
Attention! The gap between the electrodes on new spark plugs, as a rule, is set correctly at the factory and corresponds to the norm.
6. Replace with new spark plugs with burnt electrodes.
7. Bend ground electrode 1 to correct the gap. Perform bending by tapping on the side electrode. To bend the side electrode, use tool 3 or a small screwdriver, resting it on the edge of the thread, but in no case on the center electrode, otherwise it may be damaged (see illustration 14.5).
Installation
8. Clean the spark plug threads with a clean rag.
9. Screw in the candles by hand until they touch the cylinder head.
10. Tighten the candles with a candle wrench.
Attention! Spark plugs that are too tight can break or break when unscrewed, and the threads of the spark plug hole on the cylinder head can be damaged. If the threads are damaged, use the UTC repair kit or Heli-Coil.
11. Put on spark plugs tips of wires of a high tension, being guided by numbering.
Attention! On four-cylinder engines, cylinders are counted from front to back, on V6 engines, the first cylinder is front right, 2 and 3 are rear, 4th is front left, the rest are behind 4 cylinders.
Checking electrical connections
12. Check all electrical connections to the ignition unit for a secure fit.
13. Replace loose or broken plugs.
14. Check the spark plug wires by bending them and checking them for cracks. Replace wires if necessary.
