- Tie rod ends. Check the presence of play, the condition of the fasteners and the dust caps.
- Ball bearings. Check dust caps.
- Power steering. Check fluid level, top up if necessary. Conduct a visual inspection of the steering gear, power steering pump, all pipelines and the tightness of their connections.
Dust caps for tie rod ends and ball joints - check
1. Put in front of the car on the goats.
2. Check the ball joint caps on the left and right sides for damage by lighting them with a flashlight (see arrows in illustration).
3. Replace damaged caps. For safety reasons, along with the cap, also change the corresponding ball joint, because if dirt gets into it, then it will certainly break the joint.
Power Steering - Fluid Level Check
Check the oil level in the power steering reservoir with the engine off.
4. Unscrew the cover of the hydraulic booster reservoir and remove it. Wipe the dipstick on the cap with a clean, lint-free cloth (see illustration).
5. Replace the cover and remove the dipstick. The oil level in the reservoir must be between both marks on the dipstick. If the engine is warm, then the fluid level in the tank may be near the top mark. With cold oil, its level should not be below the minimum mark. Correct the oil level if necessary. You can top up with gear oil Dextron lit. Be sure to fill in only fresh oil, because even the slightest contamination will lead to malfunctions of the hydraulic booster.
6. Add oil, start the engine and turn the steering wheel with the engine running several times from lock to lock. This will remove air from the hydraulic booster.
It is recommended that in case of adding liquid to the tank, check the tightness of the steering.
