Cars with 4-cylinder engines
Removal
1. Remove the auxiliary drive belt (see the relevant section).
2. Place a container under the power steering pump, then unscrew the union nut and separate the pressure pipe. Loosen the clamp, disconnect the supply hose and allow excess fluid to drain into the container.
3. Support the pump and remove the three mounting bolts. Remove the pump from the engine compartment.
Installation
4. Install the power steering pump in the reverse order of removal. Install a new O-ring on the pump pressure pipe and tighten all couplings, nuts and bolts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.
5. Install the auxiliary drive belt (see the relevant section).
6. Bring the fluid level in the reservoir to the maximum mark using fresh fluid. Run the engine briefly, then turn it off and bring the fluid level back to normal. Repeat this procedure until the level stabilizes. Start the engine in idle mode and slowly turn the steering gear several times from one extreme position to the other to bleed it.
7. Turn off the engine and bring the fluid level to normal (see the relevant section).
Cars with 6-cylinder engines
Removal
8. On models with air conditioning, have your Opel dealer discharge the refrigerant lines.
9. Remove the auxiliary drive belt (see the relevant section).
10. Lock the power steering pump pulley with a belt wrench, then loosen and remove the pulley mounting bolts. Separate the pulley from the pump shaft.
11. Place a container under the power steering pump, then unscrew the union nut and separate the pressure pipe. Loosen the clamp, separate the supply hose and allow excess fluid to drain into the container.
12. Jack up the front of the car and place it on axle stands. Unscrew the mounting screws and remove the lower engine compartment shield.
13. Remove the screw and detach the ground strap from the power steering pump bracket.
14. Loosen the bolts and remove the EGR valve support rod. Remove the mounting screws and separate the bracket from the power steering pump.
15. Remove the air conditioning compressor from the power steering pump bracket (see the relevant section).
16. Unscrew the three bolts and remove the power steering pump bracket from the engine together with the pump.
17. Remove the pump from the bracket.
Installation
18. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal. Install a new O-ring on the pump discharge pipe and tighten all couplings, nuts and bolts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.
19. Install the auxiliary drive belt (see the relevant section).
20. Have your Opel dealer charge the air conditioning system.
21. Bring the fluid level in the reservoir to the maximum mark. Start the engine briefly, then turn it off and bring the fluid level back to normal. Repeat this procedure until the level stabilizes. Start the engine in idle mode and slowly turn the steering gear several times from one extreme position to the other to bleed it.
