Removing
1. Apply the handbrake, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove the front wheels.
2. To remove the lateral tie rod, unscrew the nuts and drive out the ball pins using a ball joint puller (see illustrations). If only one tie rod end needs to be replaced, separate only that end of the tie rod.
3. Loosen the clamp bolts and unscrew the tie rod ends, counting the number of revolutions required for this.
4. To remove the central steering rod, it is necessary to separate the side rods from it (see point 2). Remember the correct location of the central link: the light rubber casing is near the swingarm, the darker one is facing the steering lever.
5. Loosen the nuts and separate the center link from the pitman arm and swing arm using a ball joint puller (see illustration).
Installation
6. Install in reverse order. Screw the tips onto the steering rod by the number of revolutions counted during removal. Use new self-locking nuts. Tighten nuts and bolts with a tightening torque specified specifications (see illustration). Finally, check and, if necessary, adjust the toe-in of the front wheels (see Chapter 27).
