Disassembly and assembly of cylinder heads of 8-valve engines (Opel Kadett E)

Remove the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

Remove the spark plugs.

Release the valves from the crackers by compressing the valve springs with a device.

Release the valves from the crackers by compressing the valve springs with a device.


Remove the spring plates, springs, exhaust valve pivots and intake valve spring retainers.

Remove the oil deflector caps from the guide bushings.

Note: When installing new valve stem seals, place the guide cap on the valve stem and then insert the valve stem seal.


Check the clearance between the valve guides and stems and, if necessary, replace the valves by reaming the holes in the valve guides to the nearest repair size (see subsection "Design and technical characteristics").

Check the condition of the valve seats and valve working chamfers and grind them if necessary.

Check the mating surface of the cylinder head for warpage and, if necessary, grind it, observing the height of the cylinder head and the volume of the combustion chambers specified in the subsection "Design and technical characteristics".

Assemble the head in the reverse order of disassembly.
