Installation of cylinder head of 8-valve engines (Opel Kadett E)

Before installation, clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and especially the camshaft bearing housings.

Install a new cylinder head gasket with the "Oben" ("Top") mark facing up.

Install the pushers, rocker arm guides and rocker arms (see photo) into the cylinder head according to the marks made during removal, and install the cylinder head in place.

Apply sealant to the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft bearing housing, then install the bearing housing in place.

Tighten the cylinder head mounting bolts evenly in the order specified in subsection "Design and technical characteristics".

Install the timing belt and adjust its tension as shown below.

Install the front timing belt cover, place the generator drive belt on the pulleys and adjust its tension.

Subsequently, install the cylinder head in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the cylinder head mounting bolts as specified in subsection "Design and technical characteristics"

Pour liquid into the engine cooling system so that its level is 1 cm above the "KALT" mark on the expansion tank.

On engines with a contactless ignition system, check and set the ignition timing.
