Note. Remove the cylinder head only when the engine is cold.
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals.
Remove air filter.
Drain the coolant, to do this, disconnect the inlet hose from the thermostat housing and the outlet hose from the water pump housing.
On cars with carburetor engines, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the carburetor, disconnect from the engine, depending on the carburetor model, the air and throttle valve drive cables or only the throttle cable.
On vehicles with fuel injection engines, remove the air duct connecting the intake manifold and throttle body. Disconnect the choke cable from the engine. Disconnect pipes from cylinder head. hoses and electrical wires.
Disconnect the heating hoses and vacuum hoses from the inlet pipeline, disconnect the wires from the coolant temperature sensor.
Disconnect wires from spark plugs.
Remove the front camshaft timing belt guard and by turning the crankshaft. set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC of the end of the compression stroke. In this case, depending on the engine model, the mark on the camshaft pulley should be opposite the mark on the rear toothed belt protective cover or the mark on the camshaft bearing housing
Remove the ignition switch.
Remove the coolant hose bracket from the intake manifold.
Remove the alternator drive belt.
Disconnect the front muffler pipe from the exhaust manifold.
Loosen the toothed belt tension by turning the water pump housing and remove the toothed belt.
Loosen the cylinder head bolts 1/4 turn and then 1/2 turn in the reverse order of their tightening (see photo).
Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the camshaft bearing housing.
Craft a Fixture (see photo) to fix the rocker arms and remove the cylinder head. If it is not possible to make this device, before removing the cylinder head, remove the rocker arms, rocker arm guides and valve lifters and put marks on them so that when installing the head, put them in their original places.
Remove the cylinder head gasket and disconnect the outlet hose from the water pump.
Thoroughly clean the surface of the block mating with the cylinder head.
