15. Tripod type joints are installed on the drive shaft from the gearbox side (internal CV joints). To remove the boot, it is not necessary to cut its mounting edge on the drive shaft - clamp the shaft in a vice, cut off the locks of the fastening clamps with side cutters (see accompanying illustration) and slide the boot off the CV joint.

16. Clean the hinge housing and remove the lock plate (see accompanying illustration). This plate is intended only to facilitate installation and does not play any significant role. If it is damaged, it is not necessary to install a new one.

17. Remove the drive shaft from the joint housing, remove the retaining ring and tripod assembly from the drive shaft (see accompanying illustration). If the assembly cannot be removed from the shaft manually, use special pullers Opel-KM-161-B or Hazet 784-15.
