Not all of the control lamps discussed below are provided on different models. This description applies to all instrument modifications.
Seat belt. Illuminates for a few seconds after the ignition is turned on, reminding you of an unfastened seat belt (accompanied by an audible signal).
Brake/clutch condition. Lights up when the fluid level drops below normal, after the ignition is turned on and the parking brake is on.
If this lamp lights up after the parking brake is released, further driving is prohibited. Contact an Opel car service immediately.
Oil pressure. After starting the engine, it should go out. It is allowed to flash the lamp when the warm engine is idling. Should go out as the rpm increases.
If the lamp starts to glow while driving, then the engine lubrication system is faulty. You should stop immediately, as the engine may jam and the drive wheels may lock: press the clutch pedal, move the lever to neutral (or N position on automatic transmission), turn off the ignition, do not remove the key until the car has come to a complete stop in order to prevent the steering wheel from locking. Contact a car service.
Preheating (diesel). Illuminates during glowing candles when starting a diesel engine. On the X20 DTL diesel engine, this warning lamp only lights up at low outside temperatures.
Anti-lock braking system.
Engine electronic equipment. Lights up after the ignition is turned on, goes out after the engine is started.
If it lights up while driving, the engine electronics are faulty. A short movement is allowed. Contact an Opel car service immediately.
Driving is allowed if the lamp flashes for a short time.
If the lamp flashes after the ignition is turned on, this indicates a malfunction of the engine immobilizer system (immobilizer), i.e. the engine will not start.
The battery charge control lamp lights up after the ignition is turned on, goes out after the engine is started.
If the lamp lights up while driving, stop the car and turn off the engine, as the battery is not charging. On X12XE and X20DTL engines, the glow of the lamp also indicates a possible failure of the engine cooling system pump. Contact a car service.
Electronic engine cooling control. Lights up for a few seconds after the ignition is switched on.
If the lamp illuminates while driving, there may be a failure of the engine cooling system or the air conditioning cooling circuit. The movement can continue.
Direction indicator lamp Flashes when the direction indicator is turned on. Fast flashing indicates a turn signal lamp failure.
Fog. Illuminates when the fog lights are on.
High beam headlights. Illuminates when the high beam headlights are switched on, or when the headlights flash.
Rear fog lamp. Illuminates when the rear fog light is on.
Emergency fuel level lamp. Illuminates when the fuel level in the tank is low, refueling is required.
Emptying the tank is not allowed. On diesel models, the fuel system will need to be bled. On X17DTL diesels, this procedure is quite laborious. On X20DTL diesel engines, bleeding from the fuel system is carried out only in a car service.
Airbag and seat belts.
Malfunction in automatic transmission.
This indicator lamp illuminates when the ignition is switched on and goes out when the engine is started.
If the lamp starts to glow while driving, then further driving is allowed with manual gear shifting. Contact a car service.
Refusal to enable program control of automatic transmission in sport mode.
Control lamp for traction control.
Trailer turn signal indicator lamp. Flashes in time with the direction indicators. If the indicator lamp on the car or trailer fails, there is no flashing.
