Rear shock absorbers should be replaced in pairs to maintain vehicle stability and handling characteristics.
Removing
1. Support the front wheels with wheel chocks, jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Remove rear wheels.
2. On Wagon models, equipped with a rear ride height adjustment system, remove the cover of the right rear combination lamp in the luggage compartment and bleed the pressure from the system through the valve. Disconnect the air tube from the shock absorber.
3. Support the appropriate rear beam trailing arm with a trolley jack.
4. Turn out the bottom bolt of fastening of the shock-absorber to the lever.
5. Holding the shock absorber, turn out the top fixing bolt. Release the shock absorber from the upper support bracket.
Examination
1. Clamp the lower shock absorber support bracket in a soft-jawed vise and swing the stem from lock to lock several times. Any irregularities in the smoothness of the stroke of the rod indicate the need to replace both shock absorbers.
2. Assess the degree of wear of the rubber-metal bushings of the shock absorber, if necessary, replace both shock absorbers.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
1. Make sure all fasteners are tightened to the correct torque. On models equipped with a rear ride height adjustment system, charge the system with 0.8 bar overpressure, then, if necessary, adjust the pressure according to the vehicle's load.
