The operation of the air cleaner is controlled by a thermostat. which allows you to supply air with the most suitable temperature for fuel combustion with minimal exhaust toxicity.
The optimum air temperature is achieved by drawing in cold air from the air intake located at the front of the vehicle and mixing it with hot air from the shroud located on the exhaust manifold.
The engine must be cold when checking the operation of the air temperature monitor. Check the damper position first. Disconnect the hot air pipe from the air cleaner and check with your finger that the damper is closed and only cold air is passing through. Start the engine, check if the damper opens to let in only hot air from the exhaust manifold.
Temporarily connect the hot air pipe to the air cleaner.
Let the engine run until it reaches normal operating temperature.
Disconnect the hot air pipe again and check that the damper is now closed and only cold air from outside the car enters. or in hot weather, a mixture of hot and cold air. Connect the hot air pipe after the test is completed.
If the damper is not functioning properly, the air cleaner should be replaced.
