As a generator drive, Opel uses a flat belt, reinforced on the working side facing the belt pulleys, with numerous ribs. The so-called poly V-belt rotates on the drive pulleys, which are equipped with a suitable profile. A special tensioner constantly maintains the correct tension of the poly V-belt. This is achieved by a tensioning element, which presses the tension roller against the back of the poly V-belt by means of a spiral spring.
In fact, this reliable belt should last the entire life of the engine. However, the belt can fail. If the poly V-belt breaks, you can drive on! Because the water pump is driven by a toothed belt. Although the power steering pump or the air conditioning compressor do not work.
