The figure illustrates the concepts «upper» And «bottom dead center». The space between them is called «engine displacement». In contrast, the combustion chamber is located between the highest position of the piston (2) and the bottom edge of the cylinder head (1).
In all engines we are talking about ignition without a distributor (static ignition). Each two cylinders have their own ignition coil, which produces a spark only when the corresponding cylinder needs it. But technically due to the fact that each cylinder at each revolution of the engine receives a second (unnecessary but harmless) spark on the exhaust stroke.
«brain» system is the ignition/injection control unit, which directly controls the ignition coils.
In this system, the ignition setting is carried out purely electronically.
