Removal



Removal


1. In the engine compartment, remove the accelerator cable housing retaining bracket and remove the accelerator cable from the throttle cam.

2. Release the entire length of the accelerator cable from under the bracket. On models with an automatic transmission, you must disconnect the electrical connector from the downshift mechanism, which is mounted on the accelerator cable.

3. Inside the vehicle, unscrew the clips and remove the driver's side lower dash trim to access the accelerator pedal.

4. Remove the retaining bracket and disconnect the accelerator cable from the top of the pedal, fuel control.

5. In the engine compartment, remove the accelerator cable sealing ring from the bulkhead and remove the accelerator cable.



Installation



1. From the engine compartment, insert the accelerator cable into place and install the accelerator cable sealing ring onto the engine compartment bulkhead.

2. Install the cable housing into the pedal hanger retainer and connect the accelerator cable to the fuel pedal.

3. In the engine compartment, check that the accelerator cable housing is correctly positioned in the bulkhead sealing ring, then position the entire length of the cable in the mounting brackets.

4. Connect the accelerator cable to the throttle cam and secure with a clamp. Install the cable housing into the bracket and adjust the position of the accelerator cable.

Adjustment


1. In the engine compartment, remove the accelerator cable housing fastening clamp.

2. Check that the throttle cam is in its original position and, by moving the cable housing, take up the slack in the accelerator cable.

3. With the cable in the installed position, install the fastening clamp on the outer grooves of the cable sheath in front of the rubber sealing ring and washer. After installing the clamp and cable in their places, only a slight sag of the accelerator cable should be observed.

4. While the assistant gently presses the accelerator pedal, check that the throttle cam rotates fully and returns to its original position.
