Motronic System Components — Removal and Installation (Opel Vectra A)

Note: Before you begin, see. Chapter 3. The procedures for removing and installing the ignition system components and the electronic module are given in the appropriate Chapters of this Section. The procedures for removing and installing all the components of the fuel injection system are given in Section 4B.


Coolant temperature sensor



Removal



1. On all models except 20 XEJ, the sensor is located at the end of the thermostat housing, on the intake manifold side.

2. On 20 XEJ models, the sensor is located in the thermostat housing, on the exhaust manifold side.

3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

4. Partially drain the cooling system as described in Section 3.

5. Disconnect the sensor wiring.

6. Using a wrench, unscrew the sensor and remove it from the thermostat housing.

Installation



7. Perform installation in reverse order.

8. Finally, top up the cooling system fluid level as described in Section 3.

Knock sensor (dOHC models)



Removal



9. The sensor is located at the bottom of the cylinder block on the intake manifold side, below the idle speed regulator, and is only accessible from underneath the vehicle.

10. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

11. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands placed under the sides of the body frame.

12. Remove the lower engine skid plate as described in Section 11.

13. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor.



14. Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the sensor from the cylinder block.

Installation



15. Install in reverse order. Please note that the mating surfaces of the sensor and the cylinder block must be thoroughly cleaned before installing the sensor.
