The engine requires oil to lubricate and cool moving parts. Between two service oil changes, it is sometimes necessary to top up the oil. But if you have to top up more than 0.5 l of oil every 1,000 km, you should bring this to the attention of specialists at an authorized RENAULT service station.
Check intervals: Even if the maintenance plan does not include an engine oil change within the first 15,000 km, it is recommended to check the engine oil level regularly, usually before long journeys, to prevent the risk of engine damage due to insufficient lubrication.
Engine oil level
Checked on a cold or cooled down after driving engine on a level surface.
The engine oil level can be checked on the instrument panel display or using the oil level gauge.
Oil level indicator on the instrument panel

When the ignition is turned on and for approximately 30 seconds:
- when the oil level is correct, the message "oil ok" appears on display 1:

Minimum oil level (flashing)
- at minimum oil level: the word "ok" no longer appears on the display, the dashes and the word "oil" flash (message display 2), and the signal light comes on
on the dashboard.
Add oil as quickly as possible.
Checking the oil level with a dipstick

Remove the oil dipstick. Wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Reinsert it until it stops (for vehicles equipped with "oil level indicator with cap snap-on" C: tighten the cap again firmly). Remove the oil dipstick. Determine the oil level: it should not be below the "min" mark A, not above the "max" mark B.
Filling/topping up
The car must be on a level surface, the engine must be turned off and it must be cold (for example, before starting the engine for the first time in the morning).

F4R Engine
Unscrew the threaded plug of the filler neck 1. Hang the funnel 3 from its mount. Remove the top and bottom funnel caps. Install it into the filler neck.

Engine F9Q
Fill in the required amount of oil (for information: the filling volume between the "min" and "maxi" marks on the oil level indicator 2, depending on the engine, is from 1.5 to 2 liters). Wait approximately 2 minutes for the oil to drain. Check the oil level again using the dipstick 2 (as described above). Do not exceed the "maxi" mark.

Average filling volumes, including oil filter (for information)
