Connecting rods
5. Examine the matching surfaces of the connecting rod caps.
6. Check the alignment of the rods visually, if they are not in order, contact the service station to check on a special stand.

Drive chain and tensioner
9. Examine the teeth on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets. If there is any sign of wear or damage on either sprocket, both sprockets and drive chain must be replaced as a set.
10. Inspect the drive chain links. The degree of wear can be assessed by checking how far the chain can be bent sideways; the new chain will only have a slight lateral movement. If there is excessive backlash in the drive chain, it must be replaced. As a precaution, it is best to replace the drive chain if the engine has high mileage or if the chain has been noted to be noisy when the engine is running.
11. Examine chain guides, replace if necessary.
12. The condition of the tensioning mechanism can only be assessed in comparison with a new component. Replace the tensioner if there is any doubt about its condition.
