Pallet — removal and installation with engine in car (Opel Omega A)

Removal

1. Apply the handbrake. Jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands.

2. Unscrew the drain plug, drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Wipe the plug, install and tighten it.

3. Remove the nuts from the top of both engine mounting brackets, and remove the bolts securing the engine shock absorbers to the mounting brackets.

4. Raise the engine approximately 25 mm to provide the necessary clearance for removing the oil pan.

5. Where necessary, disconnect the electrical wiring from the oil level sensor.

6. On models with an oil cooler, remove the oil filter (see section 1), then unscrew the connecting nuts and disconnect the pipes from the refrigerator.

7. Unscrew the oil pan bolts and remove it from the engine. Note that the bolts are different lengths.

Note: On some models it may be necessary to loosen the stabilizer bar clamps and rotate the bar slightly downward to allow removal of the pan.

8. Remove the rubber and gaskets from the cylinder block/pan rib.

9. If necessary, unscrew the oil level sensor from the pan and remove the gasket.

Installation

10. Check that the surfaces of the block and tray are clean and dry.

11. Apply suitable sealant (Opel recommends using GM sealant specification 15 03 294 (No. 90 001 851)) to the area where the block contacts the drive cover and the rear main bearing cap.

12. Fix the gaskets in their positions with a sealant, insert the rubber gaskets into the grooves in the drive chain cover and the bearing cap and the gaskets in the cylinder block base. Check that the joints between the gaskets are covered with sealant.



13. Clean the threads of the oil pan mounting bolts, apply a suitable blocking compound (Opel recommends using blocking compound GM specification 15 10 177 (No. 90 167 347)).

14. Position the tray and tighten the mounting bolts to their original positions. Tighten all bolts by hand, then tighten them in a circle to the tightening torque specified in the Specification.

15. Connect the wiring to the oil level switch.

16. Lower the engine back into place and tighten the engine mounting bracket nuts to the torque specified in the Specification. Install the motion damper bolts and tighten them to the torque specified in the Specification.

17. Lower the vehicle to the ground and fill the engine with the specified quantity and grade of oil.
