2. Place a container under the steering gear to collect spilled fluid.
3. Check the pressure and return pipes, then unscrew the union nuts and disconnect the steering lines. Plug the ends of the lines and the steering inputs.
4. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on axle stands.
5. On models with ABS, remove the front outlet pipe.
6. Unscrew the nut securing the steering pendulum to the steering gear base, then use a suitable extractor to separate the lever from the slots on the sector shaft (photo).
7. Turn off mounting bolts and a nut and get steering transfer down from under the car (photo). Remove all gaskets from the top rack. On some models, it may be necessary to remove the heat shield first.
8. Turn off a tightening bolt and remove articulated connection of steering transfer.
9. When installing, first place the swivel joint on the grooves of the worm shaft, so that the clamp bolt hole on the column side of the coupling is horizontal at the top, with the worm shaft in the center position. Shaft and housing are marked as shown in Fig. 10.18. Insert and tighten the clamp bolt, but check that the rubber cover on the steering gear is not pressed against the casing.
10. Place the steering wheel in the center position and attach the swivel to the inner column.
11. Insert mounting bolts and tighten by hand.
12. Install gaskets, and hand-tighten the top mounting nut.
13. Tighten the upper swivel clamp bolt and the steering gear mounting bolts with the tightening force specified in the Specification.
14. Install the heat resistant exhaust shield.
15. Install the steering pendulum to the shaft and tighten the nut with the torque specified in the Specification.
16. Install the front outlet pipe on models equipped with ABS.
17. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
18. Remove the plugs, install the supply and return pipes and tighten the connecting nuts with the torque specified in the Specification.
19. Install the lining on the bulkhead.
20. Check up and in case of need add liquid level in a tank of brake system with the amplifier. Install the cover.
21. Start the engine at idle, turn the steering lock-to-lock a few times to purge air from the system, then recheck and top up the fluid level.
