Note: Replacing the upper bearing can be accomplished without removing the entire column, however it must be removed to replace the lower bushing.


1. Remove the steering wheel as described in Chapter 21.

2. Remove the screws and take the shroud heads out of the steering column.

3. Set the ignition key to position II, press the small lock and remove the lock cylinder spring.

4. Press the plastic clips and remove the turn signal switch and wiper switch. There is no need to disconnect the switch wiring.

5. Remove the spring and gasket from the inner column.

6. Using a screwdriver, remove the upper and lower fuses from the outer column.

7. Turn the switch cover counterclockwise and remove it from the outer column.

8. Disconnect the ignition switch wire contact (photo), then unscrew the two screws and remove the ignition switch.

9. Install the switch housing and press out the bearing by lifting the locking devices and spring contact.
