1. Apply the handbrake, jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Remove the left wheel.
2. Disconnect the tie rod by unscrewing the nut and using a ball joint remover to press out the ball pin (photo).
3. Remove the nut from the base of the intermediate gear hanger and remove the heat shield. The sleeve is replaced along with the lever.
4. If necessary, unscrew the intermediate gear carrier from the bottom.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, using new self-locking nuts and tighten the nuts and bolts with the tightening torque specified specification. When installing idler gear hanger bolts, use a small amount of thread blocking compound.
