Examination
Toothed belt tension should be checked with a warm engine. The oil temperature should be 60°-80°C.
Unscrew the tension bar on the alternator and remove the V-belt. Take the generator down.
Remove the top timing belt cover see point 6.7.
Rotate the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation by at least 90°so that the toothed belt is tensioned Set the piston in the first cylinder to TDC, see 7.15.
Tensioned control device KM-510-A (OPEL) slowly install on the toothed belt. Light tapping with your fingertips eliminates friction in the instrument.
The tension hook must fall into the cavity between the teeth.
Read off the toothed belt tension on the gauge scale. Compare the read value with the desired value. If necessary, adjust toothed belt tension.
The toothed belt must be tightened more if the tension of the used toothed belt is less than 4.5. On a warm engine, tighten the toothed belt current so that its tension is 9.0-0.5.
Attention: A new toothed belt must be pre-tensioned on a cold engine (oil temperature 20°C) by 7.5+0.5.
Adjustment
Loosen the water pump fixing screws.
Using a KM-509 wrench or a 42 mm wrench (to remove the generator) turn the water pump in the cylinder block. Turning the pump clockwise increases the belt tension, turning the pump counterclockwise decreases the belt tension.
Tighten the water pump fixing screws to 25 Nm.
Remove control device. Rotate the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation 1 more turn. Finally, check the belt tension again. Adjust the toothed belt tension until a stable tension reference value is obtained.
Attention: If you retensioned the toothed belt, then after that it is necessary to check the valve timing and the start of fuel supply by the high pressure fuel pump.
Check valve timing, see 7.15.
Check the start of the fuel supply.
high pressure fuel pump, see clause 7.11.
Install the upper toothed belt cover.
Install or turn the alternator, install the V-belt.
Pull on the V-belt see point 22.2.
Attention: If you do not have a device for controlling the adjustment of the toothed belt tension, then you can tighten or check the tension of the toothed belt using auxiliary tools, i.e. tension the toothed belt so that it is at point D (Pic. B4936) with the help of the thumb and forefinger, it was possible to rotate but 90°. Belt tension should be checked as soon as possible using a tester. Until this check, the engine should not be operated at maximum speed.
