The diesel engine OPEL KADETT D is a 4-cylinder in-line water-cooled engine, it is installed in front transverse to the direction of travel. Cylinders do not have replaceable liners. If necessary, the cylinders can be bored. After sprout, larger pistons are usually needed (performed in the workshop). The oil circuit, like a gasoline engine, consists of an oil pump, filter, oil pressure sensor, pressure reducing and safety valves.
A light metal cylinder head is bolted to the cylinder block. The overhead camshaft actuates the valves through poppets. The camshaft is driven by a toothed belt. The cylinder head can also be removed with the engine installed. The intake manifold and exhaust manifold are screwed to the cylinder head.
