Engine Starting System — General Information (Opel Omega B)

The electrical system has a working voltage of 12 volts negative ground. The vehicles are equipped with a battery that requires little or no maintenance. The battery is recharged by an alternator that receives drive from the crankshaft pulley.

The pre-engaged starter has a solenoid relay that causes the pinion gear to mesh with the flywheel/drive plate ring gear when the engine starts.

When working on an electrical system, the following precautions must be taken to avoid damaging semiconductor devices or causing injury.

Precautionary measures

Always remove rings, watches and other metal objects when working on electrical systems.

Do not mix up the battery connection wires.

Warning: Do not disconnect the battery, alternator, jumper cables or instruments while the engine is running.
