Petrol models
The fuel filter is located on the bottom of the car, on the right, next to the fuel tank. The special HAZET 4501-1 pliers are required to replace the filter.
When replacing the fuel filter, follow the fire safety rules!
1. Relieve the pressure in the supply system (see chapter Power supply systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases).
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Jack up the car and put it on stands.
4. Place a suitable container under the fuel filter to collect the fuel.
5. Tape the fuel supply and return hoses.
The location of the hoses can be determined by the direction of the arrow on the filter, the arrow points in the direction of flow.
6. Open the quick connectors of the fuel hoses using the HAZET 4501-1 special pliers and disconnect both hoses.
Opening quick couplings
Fill the fuel filter with fuel after disconnecting the hoses.
7. Cover the fittings with a rag.
8. Disconnect the wiring connector and remove the filter from the holder.
9. Install the fuel filter so that the arrow on its body points in the direction of fuel flow, i.e. from the tank to the engine compartment.
Proper installation of the fuel filter
10. Install the removed components in reverse order.
Diesel models
1. Drain the fuel from the filter (see Section Removal of sludge from the diesel engine fuel filter).
2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the temperature-sensitive sensor-switch and the filter heating element installed between the fuel filter and its support bracket.
3. On engine 1.5 l Disconnect the fuel hoses from the filter cover. Remove the fuel filter with holder. Carefully clamp the filter in a vise and unscrew its cover.
4. On engine 1.7 l Disconnect the fuel filter from the holder and remove it.
Removing the fuel filter
5. Thoroughly clean the filter housing.
6. Install the new filter by hand after wetting its seal with diesel fuel. Before installing the filter on the engine 1.7 l fill it with diesel fuel.
7. Fix fuel hoses if they acted in film.
8. Connect a socket of electroconducting of heating of the fuel filter.
9. Start the engine and bleed the power system (see chapter Power supply systems, release and reduction of toxicity of exhaust gases).
10. Drive the vehicle and check the power system for leaks.
