Attention: When removing the drive shaft from the crankcase of the gearbox assembly, gear oil will flow out - substitute a previously prepared container and quickly close the hole with an appropriate plug.
2. Remove the right drive shaft (see section 2).
3. On Astra models equipped with 1.3 and 1.9 liter diesel engines, and on all Zafira models, it is necessary to unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the intermediate shaft with the mounting flange from the differential assembly through the intermediate support (see resist. illustration).
4. On Astra models with a working volume of a 2.0 l gasoline engine and a 1.7 l diesel engine, it is necessary to unscrew the fixing bolts of the intermediate support and disconnect it from the engine block (see resist. illustration), then remove the intermediate shaft together with the intermediate support from the differential assembly using a hammer and a brass mandrel.
5. Replace the circlip on the intermediate shaft stub.
Note: When installing a new ring, do not spread its ends too wide. If necessary, clamp the intermediate shaft in a vice with soft jaws.
6. Installation is made in an order, the return to an order of removal. When inserting the drive shaft into the differential assembly, be careful not to damage the packing gland - use an arbor sleeve if necessary. On Zafira models and Astra diesel models with 1.3 and 1.9 liter engines, after connecting the brake hose to the caliper, do not forget to bleed the brake system and remove air from it (see chapter 9).
