On F13, F17 and F18 transmissions: the lower differential cover gasket will need to be replaced.
1. Drive the vehicle for a short time to warm up the manual transmission to normal operating temperature.
When performing the procedure, be careful - try not to burn yourself on the hot surfaces of the power unit.
2. Turn off the ignition, apply the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. If equipped, remove the crankcase protection.
Transmissions F13, F17 and F18
1. This type of transmission case is not equipped with a drain plug. If necessary, the box can be emptied in the only way - by removing the bottom cover of the differential.
2. Wipe the differential cover and the crankcase surface around it with a clean rag. Place a suitable drain container under the transmission.
3. Loosen the mounting bolts evenly in several steps, remove the cover and allow the oil to drain into the prepared container. The cover gasket must be replaced without fail.
4. After the oil flow stops, wipe the mating surfaces of the cover and differential case, as well as the inside of the cover.
5. Install a new gasket and press the cover against the differential. Screw in the mounting bolts and, moving in a diagonal manner, evenly tighten them in several steps to the required force. Lower the car to the ground.
6. Refuel the transmission with fresh oil, pouring it through the hole for installing the reversing light sensor-switch - first disconnect the wiring and remove the sensor (see Check of serviceability of functioning, removal and installation of the sensor-switch of reversing lights). Having filled in the required amount of oil of the required grade, reinstall the sensor-switch and tighten it with the required force.
Transmission F23
1. Wipe around the drain plug and place a suitable capacity drain container under the transmission.
2. Remove the plug.
3. Wait for the oil to drain out, then replace the plug and tighten it to the required torque (do not forget to replace the o-ring, if any). Lower the car to the ground.
4. Refueling of the transmission is carried out through the filler hole equipped with a plug in the upper part of the transmission housing. Finally, screw in the plug and tighten it to the required torque (if equipped, do not forget to replace the sealing ring).
All transmissions
1. Drive the vehicle for a short drive to spread the oil throughout the internal components of the manual transmission.
2. Finally, park the vehicle on a level surface and check the transmission oil level (see chapter Current service).
